Maintenance Tasks I Can Do Myself to Keep My AC Running Smoothly
Keeping your air conditioner running strong doesn’t always require a service call. There are several simple things you can do yourself to extend its life and keep your home comfortable here on the Florida coast.
First, replace your air filter every 1–3 months (more often if you have pets or allergies). A dirty filter makes your system work harder and can reduce airflow dramatically.
Second, clear debris around your outdoor unit. Keep grass, leaves, and shrubs at least two feet away so the unit can breathe. Once or twice a year, gently hose down the fins to remove dirt and pollen.
Third, check your indoor vents and registers. Make sure nothing is blocked by furniture or rugs so cool air can circulate freely.
These small steps make a big difference. Of course, there are jobs best left to the pros—like checking refrigerant levels, cleaning coils, or inspecting electrical connections. That’s where we come in.
By combining regular DIY care with annual professional tune-ups from Frank Wood & Son Services, your AC will run more efficiently, last longer, and keep you comfortable even during our hottest months.
